A flight school where the people who want to fly actually live.

Level Flight Aviation teaches people to fly and maintains aircraft in south-central Kentucky. We started at Taylor County Airport in Campbellsville and are moving to Russell County Airport near Jamestown, on Lake Cumberland.

Why here

There's no shortage of people in this part of the state who've thought about learning to fly. What there's a shortage of is somewhere close enough to actually do it. The realistic alternatives are Louisville, Lexington or Bowling Green — each of them far enough that a one-hour lesson becomes a half-day round trip.

That distance is why people stop. Flight training runs on being able to go again on Thursday when Tuesday gets weathered out, and you can only do that if going is easy. Everything about how we operate comes back to being near enough that showing up isn't a decision.

The move to Jamestown

Russell County Airport sits about three miles from downtown Jamestown, on 2.9 mi from downtown Jamestown, on Lake Cumberland. It has a 5,010 x 78 ft runway, an automated weather station, and self-serve fuel around the clock. It's quiet, which for a training field is a feature rather than a shortcoming.

Maintenance

Alongside the flight school we run an A&P maintenance shop on the field, so aircraft based here can be inspected and repaired without going anywhere. More on what the shop handles.
